The host-operator handoff SOP: silent cues for pins, stock, and rescues

Updated 2026-10-26 · Sources & methodology noted inline

In a two-person room, the host should never have to turn away from the audience to ask whether a listing is pinned or a price is safe to say. This handoff SOP replaces whispered questions with a small set of off-camera signals and tightly formatted private messages. Agencies need the same protocol across hosts and clients because an improvised handoff does not scale, and the replay exposes every missed cue.

THE TWO-CHANNEL RULE: use one private text channel for verifiable facts and one visible gesture channel for timing. The operator owns pins, stock checks, voucher state, and audience-device verification, while the host owns spoken claims, demonstrations, and transitions. A gesture can say 'wrap up' or 'stop,' but it can never authorize a new stock number, discount, or product claim. Test both channels in rehearsal with the actual phone, headset, lighting, and camera position used for the session.
