TikTok Shop Fees: Every Layer, Verified and Dated
✓ Last verified: 2026-10-15 · Sources checked per claim
TikTok Shop's cost structure is a stack, not one percentage. This page lists every layer a US seller actually pays in 2026, flags what's confirmed versus merely reported, and shows you where to verify the number that applies to your own shop.
Layer 1: Referral fee (the platform cut)
TikTok's public US category table lists 6% for most categories, and 5% for selected jewelry sub-categories (diamond, gold, jade, platinum, ruby, sapphire, emerald) plus pre-owned categories. Confirmed against the public table as of October 2026.
⚠️ Unconfirmed: several 2026 seller guides report the standard rate moving to 8% from August 4, 2026. TikTok's public table still showed 6% when we checked. Treat 8% as a scenario to model, not a fact — your Seller Center settlement statement is the only authority.
New sellers: a reduced 3% referral fee for 30 days has been reported for shops whose first sale happens within 60 days of onboarding. Don't build permanent pricing on a promo.
Layer 2: Affiliate commission (your choice, often the biggest line)
If creators generate the sale, you pay the commission you set — typically 5–20% depending on category, with beauty and wellness at the top of the range because that's what attracts creators with real audiences.
Worked example on a $40 sale: 6% referral ($2.40) + 15% affiliate ($6.00) = $8.40 gone before shipping, ads and returns. On the same sale through your own live stream, you pay only the referral fee.
Layer 3: Fulfillment, refunds and the small print
Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT) runs roughly $2.86–$4.28 per unit including pick, pack and ship; first 60 days of storage are free. In the US, shipping your own carrier labels has been phased out for independent sellers — confirm current options in Seller Center.
Refunds sting twice: TikTok returns the referral fee but keeps a refund administration fee of ~20% of the referral fee, capped around $5 per refunded SKU, plus any return handling charge.
There is no monthly subscription or listing fee to operate a US shop.
How sellers actually use this
Price from contribution margin, not from the headline fee: recognized revenue − referral − affiliate − product cost − fulfillment − ads − refund allowance. Sellers who skip the refund allowance get surprised in month two, when return rates on live-sold impulse buys show up.
Selling live through your own Official Account consistently shows the lowest fee stack of any TikTok Shop channel — no affiliate layer, no Shop Ads layer unless you choose it.
Frequently asked questions
Does TikTok Shop charge a monthly fee?
No standard monthly subscription or per-listing fee for US sellers. The recurring costs are the per-order referral fee, optional affiliate commissions you set, fulfillment if you use FBT, and ads if you run them.
Is the referral fee 6% or 8% in 2026?
TikTok's public US table shows 6% (5% for selected jewelry and pre-owned). Multiple third-party guides report 8% effective August 4, 2026, but that change is not confirmed in the public table. Verify the rate shown for your category inside Seller Center before pricing.
Does selling on LIVE cost more than selling via video?
No. The referral fee is identical regardless of channel. LIVE can actually cost less in practice because sales you generate yourself carry no affiliate commission, whereas video-driven sales often come through creators.
