The SKU Kill Switch: when to cut a product mid-stream

Updated 2026-10-26 · Sources & methodology noted inline

The SKU kill switch is a pre-agreed rule for ending a failing product segment before it consumes the session. It is not improvising because the host feels bored, and it is not pulling a product because thirty quiet seconds produced no order. The SOP gives host and operator shared authority to stop a demonstrably broken offer while protecting both the audience and the rest of the run of show.

THE THREE VALID TRIGGERS: kill for a broken sales path, a failed demonstration, or a buying question that cannot be answered within the approved claims sheet. A broken path means the listing, price, variation, voucher, or sellable stock does not match what the host is prepared to say. A failed demonstration means the product cannot perform the promised task under fair, correctly prepared conditions. Low engagement alone is a routing signal rather than an automatic kill, because silence can indict the hook or the audience match instead of the SKU.
