TikTok Shop

TikTok's public US category table lists 6% for most categories, and 5% for selected jewelry sub-categories (diamond, gold, jade, platinum, ruby, sapphire, emerald) plus pre-owned categories. Confirmed against the public table as of October 2026.

⚠️ Unconfirmed: several 2026 seller guides report the standard rate moving to 8% from August 4, 2026. TikTok's public table still showed 6% when we checked. Treat 8% as a scenario to model, not a fact — your Seller Center settlement statement is the only authority.

New sellers: a reduced 3% referral fee for 30 days has been reported for shops whose first sale happens within 60 days of onboarding. Don't build permanent pricing on a promo.

If creators generate the sale, you pay the commission you set — typically 5–20% depending on category, with beauty and wellness at the top of the range because that's what attracts creators with real audiences.

Worked example on a $40 sale: 6% referral ($2.40) + 15% affiliate ($6.00) = $8.40 gone before shipping, ads and returns. On the same sale through your own live stream, you pay only the referral fee.

Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT) runs roughly $2.86–$4.28 per unit including pick, pack and ship; first 60 days of storage are free. In the US, shipping your own carrier labels has been phased out for independent sellers — confirm current options in Seller Center.

Refunds sting twice: TikTok returns the referral fee but keeps a refund administration fee of ~20% of the referral fee, capped around $5 per refunded SKU, plus any return handling charge.

There is no monthly subscription or listing fee to operate a US shop.

Price from contribution margin, not from the headline fee: recognized revenue − referral − affiliate − product cost − fulfillment − ads − refund allowance. Sellers who skip the refund allowance get surprised in month two, when return rates on live-sold impulse buys show up.

Selling live through your own Official Account consistently shows the lowest fee stack of any TikTok Shop channel — no affiliate layer, no Shop Ads layer unless you choose it.

Self-hosted live selling (your own Official Account): thinnest stack - referral fee plus fulfillment only. This is why the channel-level fee comparison always favors live, and why live-exclusive bundles can be priced aggressively without destroying margin. Affiliate-driven growth: add your commission layer on top - typically 5-20% - and remember that creators' LIVE sales carry the same referral fee; many sellers discover their 'expensive' affiliate channel and their 'cheap' live channel differ by only a few points once discounts are counted.

FBT versus self-fulfillment is the other planning fork: FBT charges per unit but bundles picking, packing and shipping into one predictable line; self-fulfillment looks cheaper per order until your time, materials and error rates are priced in. Most scaling sellers migrate to FBT between 50 and 200 orders a week - the crossover is volume, not ideology.

Once a month, reconcile Seller Center's settlement statements against your own order log for ten random orders: referral fee per category, refund admin fees, FBT charges, any affiliate commissions. Sellers who run this audit consistently catch three things early: category misclassification (a SKU priced under the wrong fee band), refund-fee leakage on high-return products, and affiliate commissions on orders they believed were self-generated.

Each caught error is pure margin. More importantly, the audit builds your true per-order cost number - the one input that makes pricing, discount depth and bundle math honest. Every other fee guide stops at the percentages; the audit turns them into your actual business numbers.

Frequently asked questions

TikTok Shop

TikTok Shop
